In addition to being able to move around on the map, you can also control migration of your species' population without moving yourself.

This allows you to spread your species faster to new patches. When spread more widely, you'll have more total population and can move more easily yourself.

Though be careful to not send your population to patches your species is not tolerant to.

Give the migration tool a try. Click on the "migration manager" button and then pick a source patch and a target patch to move population between them.
