[b]Rusticyanin[/b] can be found in the membranes of some bacteria and archaea. It oxidises [b]Iron[/b] in contatct with the membrane, transferring electrons from it. The charge created on the membrane surface is then used to draw positive [b]Hydrogen[/b] ions into the cell. The extra electrons and ions help to convert spent [b]ADP[/b] molecules into new [b]ATP[/b] molecules and then reset the various proteins involved, so the process can start again.

In many patches, [thrive:compound type="iron"][/thrive:compound] can be found much more consistently than [thrive:compound type="glucose"][/thrive:compound] as large chunks of [thrive:compound type="iron"][/thrive:compound] ore can remain near the cell indefinitely. Be aware though that concentrations of [thrive:compound type="iron"][/thrive:compound] can decrease as the game progresses, so we recommend making use of additional energy sources before your cell starts to struggle.

We also recommend replacing any pairs of [b][color=#3796e1][url=thriveopedia:rusticyanin]Rusticyanin[/url][/color][/b] with [b]Ferroplasts[/b] after evolving a [b][color=#3796e1][url=thriveopedia:nucleus]Nucleus[/url][/color][/b] for far greater efficiency.
